Terms of Use
Last updated . These terms cover your use of the Image Size Finder website, including the tool on the home page and every page on this site.
Agreeing to these terms
By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it. The site is run by an independent developer, not a company (“I”, “me”); see About. The Privacy Policy explains how data is handled and forms part of these terms.
What the service is
Image Size Finder is a free web service that reads image files and reports their pixel dimensions, file size, format, aspect ratio, megapixels, the resolution stored in the file, print sizes and whether they meet published upload limits. It can measure files on your device, a single image at a web address, or the images referenced by a web page, and when an image misses a limit it can make a cropped, resized or compressed copy that meets it, or a copy cropped to a paper size for printing, in your browser. There are no accounts, subscriptions or paid features, and the site shows no ads.
Results are measurements, not advice
The numbers come from what each file declares in its header, worked through the formulas shown on the home page. They are not professional printing, legal or technical advice, and they can’t account for everything that decides whether a picture prints well or an upload is accepted. In particular, the tool does not know:
- how sharp, noisy or compressed the picture actually looks, or whether it was enlarged from a smaller original;
- your printer’s or print shop’s own requirements, bleed, trim, paper and color profile;
- rules that aren’t about size, such as a white background, face position for ID photos, text overlays or content policies;
- changes a platform makes to its limits after the date shown next to each one, or limits that differ by country, app or account type;
- how a website’s CSS and scripts finally display an image, since a page scan reads only the HTML.
A copy made with Make the copy is measured again and checked against the same limits, and the result is shown next to the download. That check covers size, shape, file size and file type only (for a print copy: the paper’s shape, the resolution it prints at and the stored DPI). Cropping removes part of the picture, compression lowers its quality, and enlarging adds no detail; look at the copy before you use it.
Check anything important against the official requirements and a test print or test upload before relying on it.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for the files and addresses you use with the site, and for having the right to use them, including the right to make and use edited copies of an image. Keep your own copies of anything important; the site doesn’t store your images and can’t recover them.
Acceptable use
Please don’t:
- use the Image link or Web page tabs to reach private networks, probe servers, or make requests you aren’t allowed to make;
- send automated or bulk requests that put unusual load on the site or on the sites it fetches from;
- try to break, bypass or overload the site’s security, limits or servers;
- use the feedback form to send spam, abuse, malware or other people’s personal information;
- use the site for anything unlawful.
I may block requests or access that break these rules.
The Image link and Web page tabs
When you use these tabs, my server requests the address you give on your behalf and reads only enough of each image to find its size. When you make a copy or a smaller version of an image whose site won’t let your browser read it, the server downloads that one image in full (up to 4 MB) and passes it to your browser. Only use these features for content you are allowed to access and to edit. Some sites refuse such requests or limit them; the tool then shows the reason it was given. Fetched content isn’t stored.
Feedback
If you send feedback or suggestions, you let me use them to improve the site without owing you anything. Please don’t include confidential information or anything you don’t want me to read.
Who owns what
Your images and their contents belong to you or their owners; using the site gives me no rights in them. The site’s design, text and code belong to me and are protected by copyright. You may link to any page and quote short parts of the explanations with a link back. The example photo of a dog is by W.carter on Wikimedia Commons, released into the public domain under CC0.
Sources, outside links and open-source parts
Upload limits come from each platform’s own help pages, linked next to each check, and were read on the date shown. Those pages, and any image or page you measure, belong to their owners. Links to other sites are given for convenience; I don’t control those sites and am not responsible for their content.
HEIC photos are opened in browsers other than Safari with heic-to and libheif, used unmodified under the GNU Lesser General Public License 3.0. That licence, not these terms, governs those libraries.
Availability and changes to the service
I aim to keep the site available but don’t promise that it will always be online, fast or free of errors. I may change, pause or remove features, including the list of formats and platforms, for maintenance or any other reason.
No warranty
To the extent the law allows, the site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses such as a rejected upload, a disappointing print, missed deadlines or lost profits, arising from your use of the site or reliance on its results. Because the service is free, my total liability for any claim is limited to 50 US dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Your consumer rights
If you use the site as a consumer, you keep any statutory rights the law of the place you live gives you that can’t be waived by agreement. These terms don’t take those rights away.
Ending use
You can stop using the site at any time. I may stop providing the site, or block access for anyone who breaks these terms. The sections on ownership, no warranty and limitation of liability continue to apply after use ends.
General
If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term straight away doesn’t waive it. These terms are the whole agreement between you and me about the site.
Changes to these terms
I may update these terms when the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
